Do this, do that!

Many writers are concerned about their “platform,” sometimes forgetting to take time to write their books it seems, some of them haven’t even written a book to start with.

Nothing wrong with being prepared but when I hear so many saying they haven’t got time to WRITE, the balance seems all wrong. Ah, balance, always a tricky one.

It seems though that there is so much advice about promoting yourself that writers become obsessed with it, questioning their every moves be it about what they’re writing , how they’re writing…

So it’s confusing out there, you’re not sure who to listen to, what do you do?

Write, of course, that is the whole point, isn’t it?

Write, write again and then worry how you’re going to promote yourself. Make contacts, talk to people, sure and don’t forget to listen to your gut instinct. You’re the one writing this book, either you can or you can’t, but nobody can tell you how to write.

Most useful hashtags when writing

All writers jot ideas on everything they can lay their hands on. When inspiration strikes, you’ve got to write it down. Incidentally, writing it down helps me remember those precious ideas.

So what do you do with all the bits of paper, notebooks…you have accumulated. How do you reconcile them with the stories you write?

I’m not the most organised writer, but I do try. Worse, I often go from one project to the other.

Firstly, I have plastic folders labelled with the title of the book the ideas are destined to. But, most importantly, every time I write something down I use a hashtag.

An idea crops up about a steamy sex scene, #sex.

Another idea about a coffee shop scene, #coffee.

Wedding? #wedding

And so on…

That way, when I come back to the scene in question, I can check my notes and find it all neatly under one hashtag.

So thanks Twitter, sometimes inspiration strikes from the most unlikely place.

An Easter message

Goodness, I sound like the pope. Sorry, no disrespect meant.

The last few weeks have been rough. Still, I’m grateful, things could be far worse.

I’m alive, I have a fantastic family and friends. Another book is out, another on the way.

I would like to thank you all of you, readers, friends everywhere and friends on Facebook, Twitter and of course Women on the Verge.

Thank you so much for your kindness and your support.

I’m so touched by all your lovely messages. It’s tempting sometimes to share them but I don’t.

Why not? Because I respect the senders of this kindness. The fact they’ve sent a message privately tells me something, and I wouldn’t betray their confidence. If you share something for all to see, that’s another matter.

Some of these messages touch me very deeply, thank you for sharing your stories. Together we can share and make a difference. So thank you for letting me know when something I’ve said or written has made a difference.

A hoax, or a car crash story
Is this for real? It could almost have been funny. Indeed I first thought like many I’m sure it was a joke, an April Fool. Only the date was wrong. So, I thought, it could still be a hoax.
Well, it seems the Samantha Brick story boomed world wide. A woman being ridiculed and served as lamb, human sacrifice fro the masses. If only it had been a joke with a ha ha, wasn’t that funny? But no, it goes on. First I felt sorry for her, but low and behold within hours there was another story. Did I still feel sorry for her? I’m bemused, stop this massacre. Has the Mail got no pride at all? No sense of what is going on? Or is it a hoax? Or just plain trash?

Just in case you don’t know what I’m talking about, here’s the link from one of Britain’s much acclaimed and prestigious newspapers (hope you got the sarcastic bit)

Either it’s a very sad story of a woman with a deep problem or it’s a hoax. Thing is she apparently is an award winning journalist and nobody had heard from her before? Hmm, strange, is it not?

Either way it’s causing quite a stir, I bet the Daily Mail is grinning all the way.

The Dear One made a comment. “Perhaps she’s been living in France for too long and suffers from the well-known French arrogance.”

There’s being confident and there’s Samantha Brick. I’m astonished at the storm this article has created. She’s vilified and called ugly. Does it matter whether she’s beautiful or not?

I’m not going to join the bash whether it’s a true story or a hoax. People love to hate it seems, I don’t. If the story is true, I’d say shame on the Daily Mail for exploiting a woman who clearly has problems.

Yes, sadly women can be bitchy. I can’t believe I used that word, hate it. They can be jealous for all sorts of reasons. Fortunately there are aslo beautiful women, the ones with inner beauty, and these are the women I want to be associated with.

P.S. Thanks to the Daily Mail people now have a strange idea of what French men are like, referring to the pictures of her husband posing with a gun.

Is any of this Samantha Brick story true? I don’t know, but it’s all trash anyway.

Right, got better things to do now, cheerio.
